Business System Analyst

Job Purpose:

Develops project plans & specification documents for technology partners based on user needs.   Evaluates/tests software programs to verify that programs function according to specifications and standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and writes various program spec documents based on business user needs and known program capabilities
  • Works with all levels of employees throughout the company
  • Drives results and solution explanations based upon audience
  • Collaborates with Quality Control & Business Analysis staff for best business practices
  • Understand various vendor integration’s and help in drafting plans and testing third party data integration’s
  • May be “on-call” for system emergencies affecting agent New Business processing
  • Identifies, analyzes, and documents defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in software program functions, outputs, online screens, and content
  • Understand and review rate filings for different products
  • Performs computer system rate, form, Underwriting edit testing for multi-state, multi-company operation
  • Perform regression testing for new product changes
  • Creates test cases and test data manually and with automation
  • Documents, tracks, and communicates test plans, test results, analysis, and unresolved problems
  • Reviews internal audit results to detect trends and possible errors in rating or document programming


  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience
  • Intermediate to Advanced skills in Excel and basic understanding of SQL or Access
  • Experience with automated testing tools like Selenium a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and understanding patterns and deviations
  • Ability to research credible sources to assist in problem solving and increase innovation
  • Strong organization, excellent follow-up, multi-tasking, and proof reading skills required
  • Insurance industry experience a plus
  • Ability to remain flexible and open to varied work schedule as project load changes based on company need and speed to market decisions which may require hours beyond a standard 40-hour work week
